Black & White Film Processing

In the Fraser Valley, colour film processing is easy to find, but black and white development is often expensive and slow because local retailers outsource it to a custom lab in Vancouver.

I offer a local, cost‑effective alternative. With over 50 years of experience, I hand‑process every roll in my professional darkroom, ensuring consistent, high‑quality results.

SERVICES:

I process 35mm, 120, and 4×5 large‑format film, and I’m equipped to handle vintage or expired stocks as well. Unusual sizes and delicate emulsions are developed using tray or dip‑and‑dunk methods to ensure the best possible results.

Unless you request develop‑only service, your film will be digitally scanned (JPEG or TIFF) and delivered electronically. Negatives are then sleeved and made available for pickup. Please note that negatives are held for 30 days; if you wish to keep them, they must be picked up within that time. Ultra‑high‑resolution scanning and specialty wet‑scanning options are also available.

PRINT RESTORATION:

In addition I also offer vintage print restoration, so if you have a family photo that is faded, torn or damaged, this can often be repaired.

PRICING:

B/W film development plus standard scanning

35mm (36 exp) $20.00 per roll
35mm (24 exp) $18.00 per roll
120 film (all formats) $20 per roll

I aim for a 24–48 hour turnaround, however this can vary depending on workload. If timing is important, please check availability before sending your film. Payment can be made by e‑transfer or credit card; details will be provided when you place your service request.

FAQ:

Do I need to pickup my negatives if I don’t want them?

We always encourage photographers to keep their negatives — they’re the film equivalent of digital RAW files. As scanning technology improves, your negatives will continue to hold all the detail of the original scene. If you truly don’t want them, we will dispose of them after 30 days.

Can you do push / pull processing?

Yes. Please let us know when booking your service, and include a note with the film indicating the ISO at which it was shot.

What size are the scans?

Standard scans are 4000×3000 and can be delivered as JPEG or TIFF files. High‑resolution scans are approximately 9000×6000 and are provided in TIFF format only. Contact us for pricing on high‑resolution or wet‑scanning options.

Can I mail my film?

Yes. You can mail film from anywhere in Canada via Canada Post. The mailing address will be provided when you contact us for service.

Can you do colour film?

Primarily we focus on black and white. Local retail labs already offer excellent colour processing, and we’re not trying to compete with them. See our Local Film Processing page for recommended locations. However if you have a type of colour film the retail labs won’t handle, contact me and we may be able to assist.
